THE Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) has opened a new branch at Abeka Lapaz in Accra.

It is the first branch the bank has opened this year.

It is expected to offer financial support and other products to meet the financial and development needs of residents, businesses and organisations of Abeka-Lapaz, Nyamekye, Darkuman, Taborah, Race- Course, Sowutum, Kwashieman, Ablekuma and its environs by offering them easy access to the services and products of the bank.

The Abeka-Lapaz branch would offer all the banking services and products of the GCB including, 24 hour personal loan, collect deposits, money transfers, ATM services, Mastercard, Internet and SMS banking, among others.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Accra, the Chief Operating Officer, Mr Kojo Addae-Mensah, said the opening of the branch was a step by the bank to bring banking services close to the doorsteps of its customers.

According to him, there were persistent calls and demands by residents and businesses in the area to open a branch, hence, the decision to invest in the community.

He said the GCB would continue to improve services at its existing branches and expand to new areas in response to the financial needs of Ghanaians.

Mr Addae-Mensah urged the bank’s customers to take advantage of the various e-banking services of the bank to avoid some of the inconveniences associated with going to the banking hall to transact business.

“We have opened the physical branch but GCB would want all to, as much as possible, use other alternative channels in conducting routine business such as cash withdrawals, transfers, balance enquiries and other products and services”, he emphasised.

The GCB is currently piloting “Point of Sale” devices at selected restaurants, hotels, beach resorts, bars and super markets in Accra, Takoradi and Kumasi.

So far GCB has 158 branches across the country
